Rules for the transfer of accounts in banks  (valid from 15-03-2010)


What is a bank account? 

Bank account is the customer’s main account for everyday financial transactions. The customer with a Bank account is entitled to the following:
• to supplement the account with cash - in Litas or foreign currency,
• receive in his or her name funds via local or international transfers,
• receive cash from the Bank’s cash office,
• buy or sell foreign currencies,
• transfer funds in Litas or a foreign currency if the beneficiary is abroad,
• to buy Bank or Travellers’ cheques,
• transfer funds to the payment cards accounts,
• transfer funds to other types of deposits,
• to submit a request to the employer about a standing order to transfer the salary on the account,
• to notify the Bank to execute the customer’s standing orders for the benefit of the third party,
• to use a direct debit service.
To manage the Bank account, the customer leaves payment documents with the Bank or, having signed a separate agreement, uses the Bank’s internet system SB linija or the Bank’s services on a mobile telephone SMS bankas.
The funds on the Bank account bring interest.

Who can open a bank account?

• Both - the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania and foreign states may have a bank account.
• While opening the account a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania must provide a document proving the personal identification with the photo and signature. It could be:
   - a passport of the Republic of Lithuania;
   - a personal identification card;
   - an official passport of the Republic of Lithuania;
   - a foreigner’s passport of the Republic of Lithuania;
   - driver’s license of the Republic of Lithuania with the driver’s photo and signature issued after January 1st 2003
• A foreign citizen besides the document proving the personal identification must additionally provide:
   - a permission to live in the Republic of Lithuania temporally;
   - or a permission to live in a foreign State permanently.
• A bank account can be opened only by you or a person authorized by you. The person authorized by you has to come to the bank to submit a letter of attorney signed by a notary public.
• A joint bank account could be opened by several entities (co-owners of the bank account). In this case the account agreement defines how the funds on the account ought to be disposed  - together of each one separately.


How to open a bank account?

Please visit the nearest outlet of Šiaulių bankas to open a bank account.
An account on your behalf or to your benefit may also be opened by another person. The person authorized by you has to visit the bank, submit a letter of attorney confirmed by a notary public and to open a bank account. Such an account could be used immediately.

3. using the mobile banking service SMS bankas or SMS bankas plius
